GIANT TREVALLY

GIANT TREVALLY
It was only the third day of our trip and Herle was showing us the reef of the atoll. We had already landed some bluefin jacks and red carp, and the fishing was in full swing.
Suddenly—out of the deep blue—two massive shapes appeared in front of me. Two Geets!
I instantly made a cast in their direction. The smaller one accelerated toward my fly, and just as it came close to the bank, it smashed it.
I strip-set hard, and the fight I had been dreaming about for so long finally began.
I tightened the drag to the max and did everything I could to stop the fish. It took the entire fly line plus about 20 meters of backing before I managed to turn it. I started gaining line, but then it wrapped itself around the corals.
What followed were 10 dramatic minutes of releasing, pulling, praying, and trying to free the fish… and by some miracle, I succeeded.
Once I was in durect contact again, I played it hard, and with the help of the waves—and my dear friend Herle—we managed to land the fish up onto the reef.
The rest is history.
The GT measured 105 cm to the fork, and I’m honestly grateful the bigger one didn’t take the fly—it looked easily in the 50 kg range.
I landed this dream fish using my Guideline NT11 Saline 14wt and the Scandi 11+ reel, which performed flawlessly throughout the entire trip and exceeded all my expectations. The fly I used was tied by @rupertharveyflies
A long-awaited dream finally became reality.

GT on fly from the reef.
